Greyfriar's Bobby part II

Actual photograph of little Bobby at the Edinburgh Museum.

Bobby's collar...

Bobby's food bowl

I went and visited some museums around the city this past weekend, and came across this little display for the Greyfriar's Bobby.  I didn't realize they had actual pictures of him and his little collar.  Too cute.  Don't worry, this will be my last dog post.  Can you tell that I miss Scooter? :)

creepy graveyard pics...

can you tell i'm ready for halloween? :)

graves on the side of the church...

getting fresh in a tomb... he was pretty cute

These are in graveyards all over Edinburgh because of the body snatchers, Burke & Hare.  They would place the coffins in these locked grates to keep them from being stolen while they were waiting to be buried.  Crazy, I know.
There's a Simon Pegg movie coming out soon about B&H!  Woo-hoo!  Can't wait!

Here are some pictures from my day trip out to St. Andrews.  The town is so little and cute.  Apparently we missed Prince William by two weeks.  Dang it!

sad face

I was told today by an Irish girl that I do not have red hair.  I am officially depressed.  :(

I'm sorry, but what color is my hair then?  *sigh*

Nerd Alert!

As most of you know, I am a total Harry Potter dork.  So this post will come as no surprise!  Supposedly J.K. Rowling got some of the characters' names from this cemetery that is very close by, Greyfriars Kirkyard.  The same one where that cute little dog was.

Anyway, my friend Gretta and I scoured the place, and we found a couple of names!  Sorry to those of you that don't really care about HP.  Ha!

Below we have the grave of Thomas Riddell, Esq.  Pretty much Tom Riddle, right?

And then we have William McGonagall, which was the inspiration for Prof. McGonagall.  I guess there was a grave close by that had the name Minerva on it, but I missed that one.  Maybe I'll have to go back and check it out.  Anyway, this guy below is noted as being the worst poet in British History.  At least he gets his picture taken all the time.

Okay, that's my nerd break.  Hope you enjoyed it!

homesickness = actual sickness

I'm not really 100% homesick, but I will say that I am missing some food from the States.  I have never wanted Taco Bell so much in my life... and the fact that I can't even come CLOSE to making a run for the border makes me crazy!

As you can imagine, Mexican food here is not really a 'specialty'.  They like to claim that things are Mexican food... but they don't even carry sour cream in the grocery stores, so how can it really be good Mexican food without sour cream? Or nacho cheese?!?

I was very excited to find a little hispanic section of the grocery store... and it was Old El Paso.  Score!  So I picked some taco seasoning, hot salsa, and I was ready to take on the world.

I made this somewhat declious looking taco salad.  I say delicious looking, because it was anything but.  The salsa was not even close to be 'hot' and actually tasted more like ketchup than salsa.  Gross.  The seasoning on the salsa was something that cannot even be explained.  So needless to say, most of it went in the trash.  And then I got sick for about three days.  I'm just not starting to get over it, buy my stomach has not been very happy with me unless I eat yogurt and soup.

My attempt at comfort food didn't turn out very well.  I'm totaly going to stock up on the good stuff while I'm home over Christmas.  This will also include multiple trips to the Bell. :)

Greyfriar's Bobby

Every day I walk down the street to my school and pass this cute little statue.  Little Greyfriar's Bobby is the most photographed statue in all of Scotland.  So of course I had to take a picture of it.  Complete with 'Bobby's Bar' in the background.  Yeah, he's that cool that he gets his own bar.  The story is pretty sweet.  Who cares if it's true or not, right?

A view of Greyfriar's Bobby and the George IV bridge

And his little grave... just outside the churchyard so he can still be close to his owner. :(

In honor of Halloween coming up, more creepy cemetary pictures to come!

The cones of Scotland...

We have some characters here in Scotland.  Every time you walk down the street, some statue has a cone added to it.  I have to say, it kind of makes you smile in the morning to see this guy...

and this fine gentleman... (tiny cone, but the statue is really high up there)

...and my personal favorite.  Can you see the second cone? I'm easily amused. :)
