These are in graveyards all over Edinburgh because of the body snatchers, Burke & Hare. They would place the coffins in these locked grates to keep them from being stolen while they were waiting to be buried. Crazy, I know.
There's a Simon Pegg movie coming out soon about B&H! Woo-hoo! Can't wait!
